Andrew Benedict Carlin of Sanford, Maine, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2021, at the age of 89.
He was born on February 17, 1932, in Littleton, New Hampshire. Just a few years later, he met the girl who later became the love of his life at the pool in Bethlehem where they both spent their summers. Andy and Edith shared a lifetime of adventure -- square dancing Saturday nights away, taking their children camping on roadtrips, and watching their kids and grandkids play countless soccer games.
Andy served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He operated radio communications to ensure U.S. aircraft could land safely. Andy was awarded the Soldier’s Medal for heroism, which he proudly displayed in his home.
Andy worked at Sprague Electric in Sanford and retired after 38+ years of dedicated service. In his first retirement, Andy enjoyed helping customers at Aubuchon Hardware with their home improvement projects. Andy then spent his second retirement working on projects of his own, as well as making countless memories with his family. He and Edie spent many evenings with friends sharing a "taste," stories, and laughs.
He leaves Edie, his wife (one month shy) of sixty-four years, his daughter Dayle McDermott (Tom, predeceased); his sons Roy (Donna), Bill (Carol), and Mike (Laurie); grandchildren Autumn, Kate Durkee (Travis), Spencer (Lauren), Hannah DePalo (Vincent), Tom (Jamie Schaefer), Thomas, and Chelsey; and great-grandchildren Bennett (also a namesake) and Brooklynn. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Melina, and his siblings Fred Jr. and Joan.
Visiting hours will be held at Crossroads United Methodist Church (16 Grammar Road, Sanford) on December 28, 2021, from 10:00 until 10:30, with a funeral service to follow. At 12:00, there will be a burial at the Southern Maine Memorial Veterans Cemetery (83 Stanley Road, Springvale), with light refreshments back at Crossroads afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House or the Crossroads United Methodist Church.
