Obituary

John Frederick Crouch, 79, of Wells, Maine, went home peacefully, to be in the arms of his beloved Lord, with his wife by his side, August 11, 2021.

Born March 9, 1942 in Brighten, Michigan, to Rev. Dr. Hugh C. Crouch and Ruth {Anthony Fiske} Crouch. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Sarah Elizabeth Andrews and her husband Rev. James Andrews, and his step-son Stephen E. Poole.

He and his family moved from Illinois to Springvale, Maine, when he was about 12, and graduated from Sanford High School in 1960. He went to Nasson College and then received his Master's Degree from the University of Southern Maine.

After a short time teaching at Bryant Pond, and then Sanford Junior High School, he taught sixth grade at the Willard School in Sanford for 28 years. After retiring from teaching, he worked at Hannaford in Sanford until 2014.

John is survived by the love of his life, Maxine (Bubar Poole Crouch) of 38 years, step-daughter, Kelly Poole; step-daughter-in-law Cindy Littlefield Poole , step-grandchildren-- Brenda Poole-Kessler and her husband Alex, James Poole and his wife Rachel, Kaitlyn Nadeau Lindsay Nadeau and her fiancé Tyler Pratt, and Mallory Nadeau; niece Charis Andrews Hanberry and her husband Dwayne, and their two sons, David and Daniel; and nephew Bryan Andrews and his wife Kelli and sons Patrick and Parker.

John was a past member of the First Baptist Church of Springvale where his father was pastor. He was a very active member of Acton Congregational Church, serving as a Deacon, Moderator, and on the Finance Committee. He was very proud to be a member of the Gideon International since 1990 and served in several local and state cabinet positions.

John enjoyed spending time with Maxine and their beloved dog Webster, reading the Bible, and was a sports enthusiast. At one time, John was a softball umpire for local Sanford/Springvale teams. One of his joys was keeping in touch with friends and colleagues by phone when his health declined.
