Leon N. Poisson, 75, of Sanford, passed away after a long illness on January 11, 2021 at the Southern Maine Hospital in Biddeford. He was born in Sanford on July 8, 1945 a son of the late Emile and Diana (Hamel) Poisson. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1964. He then served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Leon loved baseball, his favorite team being the Red Sox. For 25 years he was employed as an electrician and nuclear inspector at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Leon enjoyed watching Red Sox games as well as movies and game shows. He also enjoyed playing games on his tablet.
He was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to everyone.
He is predeceased by his brother, Emile Poisson Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Therese (Jalbert) Poisson, daughters, Nichole Poisson and partner Kathie Doiron, Christine Poisson and husband, Alvin W. Ott Jr., son, Scott Poisson and wife Debby, brothers, Philip Poisson and Donald Poisson as well as many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
A graveside service will be announced at a later date at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale.
