Hunting 04

Richard A. Brandt

October 20, 1947 ~ May 17, 2021 (age 73)

Richard (Rick) Brandt, 73, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 17th at Maine Medical Center after a period of declining health.

He was born on October 20, 1947 in Sanford to Otto C. and Audrey (Goodwin) Brandt.

Rick grew up with his many close cousins in Waterboro Center spending time on his grandfather's farm, hunting, fishing, and playing on the very first little league team in Waterboro.

Rick graduated from Sanford High School in 1965. In September of 1966, he joined the National Guard leaving service in 1972. He pursued & completed an apprenticeship program at GTE Sylvania in Waterboro. In November of 1972, he married the love of his life Nancy Daney and together they raised 2 girls.

He left Sylvania to pursue a career as a Forest Ranger with the Maine Forest Service, fighting in the Baxter fires and working out of the Cornish office. In 1978, he moved onto the family homestead in Waterboro that had been in the family since the Revolutionary War.

He returned to GTE Sylvania and worked there until it closed, after which he began a career in the engineering field with Pratt & Whitney in North Berwick until his retirement in 2014.

Rick was an avid fan of the New England Patriots and his wife would always ask why hadn't Coach Belichek called him yet for advice. He was also a lifelong Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching the Celtics. His favorite activity though was to watch his grandsons play baseball, football, run cross country, play hockey, race sled dogs or any other activity they were involved with. Rick absolutely loved the outdoors and spent time fishing, hunting, and camping. He loved spending time upta camp where he cut, measured, and set every log of his camp with the help of with his friends and family. At home he loved being on his tractor where he had a bird's eye view to recruit and direct his minions in various projects around the homestead.

Rick loved keeping busy and had lots of hobbies over the years ranging from drag racing to racing at Beech Ridge, snowmobile racing, golfing, and flying (and crashing) radio-controlled airplanes to name a few.

Rick will be greatly missed by his wife of 48 years Nancy (Daney) Brandt, his 2 daughters Melissa Brandt-Daigneault and Leonard and Amy Beth Lucarelli and husband Anthony, grandsons Ethan Daigneault, Braden Daigneault, and Rylan Daigneault. He is also survived by his aunt Barbara Brunette of Sanford, Dorothea Edgecomb of Waterboro and Carol Canning of Waterboro, many cousins, sister in-laws and their husbands and his special companion dog Belle.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Pine grove Cemetery South at 93 West Road Waterboro.

Rick's family would like to thank Maine Health Care at Home, especially Denise Daniel who cared for him most recently as well as all the wonderful staff at MMC who gave him such great compassionate care at the end of his life.
